AASU stages protest against frequent power cuts in Jorhat dist

JORHAT, Aug 10 - AASU members today burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in front of the APDCL office here to protest against frequent power cuts in recent times in the district.

It may be mentioned here that Sonowal holds the charge of Power department.

The protesters shouted slogans against the Government and the Chief Minister demanding restoration of regular power supply to the consumers.

The protesters flayed the Government for the erratic electricity supply to consumers and pointed out that the BJP on the eve of last Assembly polls had promised 24�7 power supply. They said that people were suffering a lot in view of frequent power cuts during this summer season.

The protesters said that at a time when the businessmen, traders, industrial units had been severely hit financially due to the lockdown since about past five months back, the frequent disruptions in electric supply was adding to the woes of the people.

They also stated there were many complaints from consumers across Jorhat town and nearby areas alleging that the APDCL phone (in Jorhat) meant for receiving complaints from consumers remained unattended most of the time and at times the phone was put off the hook by errant staff.

Assistant General Secretary of Jorhat district unit AASU Bijoy Shankar Bordoloi, State AASU Organising Secretary Jul Khound, were among those who led the stir programme.

Later, a delegation of the student body submitted a memorandum to the Deputy General Manager of APDCL establishment here seeking uninterrupted power supply to consumers.
