GUWAHATI, July 31 - The All Assam Students� Union today described as unbelievable the National Green Tribunal�s dismissal of the applications challenging the constitution of the expert committee by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in matters related to the Subansiri Lower project.
The student body indicated that it may intensify democratic agitation in protest against the Centre�s adamant attitude on big hydroelectric projects.
Tularam Gogoi�s advocate on July 25, 2019 argued before the NGT that the MoEFCC had violated the directive of the Tribunal by not constituting the expert committee with impartial and independent experts.
The experts included in the committee were either connected with the Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Power Project (LSHEP) or with any other big hydroelectric project. Gogoi is a former vice president of AASU.
