AASU slams Govt over NRC update

GUWAHATI, June 1 � The All Assam Students� Union (AASU) on Tuesday expressed dissatisfaction over the failure of the government to start the process of NRC update as a pilot project in Chaygaon and Barpeta development blocks from today as promised during the tripartite meeting.

It needs to be mentioned here that the decision to start NRC update in Chaygaon and Barpeta development blocks from June 1 was taken at the April 22 tripartite meeting between the AASU, Central Government and State Government.

The student body while slamming the Centre and the State Government stated that the NRC should be updated as per the Assam Accord.

Functionaries of the student body, president Sankar Prasad Roy and general secretary Tapan Kumar Gogoi said that neither the Centre nor the State Government was sincere about updating the NRC which was reflected in the failure to keep the assurances.
