AASU protest today

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 9 - AASU members will stage Satyagraha programmes in the district headquarters tomorrow to protest against the Centres move to amend the Citizenship Act, which is allegedly aimed at settling post-1971 Bengali Hindu migrants from Bangladesh in Assam.

The student body said today that its members would also send memorandums to the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister through the DCs on the issue.

Following the Assam Accord, Assam took the burden of migrants from the neighbouring country till March 24, 1971, irrespective of religious allegiance. But now the State is not ready to accept migrants who crossed over to the country after 1971, the AASU said, adding that a small State like Assam should not be forced for this.
