JORABAT, Sept 26 - The AASU today staged districtwise protests against the steep hike in fuel prices.
Protesters burnt effigies of Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan at Sonapur, Chandrapur and Latasil under the banner of AASU�s Kamrup Metro unit.
AASU activists shouted slogans against the BJP-led Union and State governments for not being able to control fuel prices despite the party�s promise to check prices of fuel and essential commodities before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and 2016 Assembly elections.
The AASU units asked the Centre to cut down prices and raised slogans such as �Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan murdabad�, �Cut down fuel and LPG prices� and �Petroleum Minister Pradhan Hoshiyar�.
Rintu Das, president of AASU�s Dimoria unit said, �We demand of the State government to relax its taxes on fuel and put fuel under GST in order to provide immediate relief to the common people.�
