AASU protest against Govt move on migrants

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 7 - Protesting against the Union governments move to grant citizenship to religious minorities of neighbouring countries on humanitarian grounds, the All Assam Students Union (AASU) will launch a protest activity throughout the State on November 10.

The proposed legislation, which is likely to impose additional burden of Hindu Bangladeshis on Assam, is against the interest of the State. AASU will resort to satyagraha on November 10 in every district headquarters in protest against the proposed amendment, said the student body in a statement.

The programme has been planned after a discussion among representatives of 28 ethnic bodies and recommendations of a public meeting held in Guwahati recently. The movement has the support of all the major ethnic bodies of State, the indigenous Sahitya Sabhas and several other organisations and individuals, the press statement claimed.
