AASU plea on filing NRC objections

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 6 - The All Assam Students Union (AASU) has urged the Centre, State Government and NRC authorities to create a conducive atmosphere so that people could file their objections in a hassle-free manner.

The AASU said in a statement that with the phase of filing claims and objections now on, the people have not got the adequate facilities to file objections against suspected illegal Bangladeshi migrants.

The people of Assam are aware of the fact that there are many pockets in the State where suspected Bangladeshi migrants are residing. But to file objections by going to such places is next to impossible due to security reasons. Therefore, we urge the Government to facilitate filing of objections at district headquarters, the AASU said.

The AASU has also submitted a written memorandum to the local judges committee constituted by the Supreme Court of India.

The AASU further appealed to the Government to hold the hearings on objections at district headquarters. It added that the authorities must also provide adequate security during filing of objections and hearings.
