AASU picks up 22 suspected Bangladeshi nationals

JORHAT, Aug 13 � The suspected Bangladeshi citizens have selected the Assam-Nagaland border areas as their safe shelter during the last couple of months. This was alleged by Jorhat district unit of All Assam Students� Union after picking up as many as 22 suspected illegeal migrants from Mariani and Deberapara areas within last 24 hours.

Talking to the Assam Tribune, Dhrubajyoti Hazarika, general secretary, Jorhat district unit of AASU said that some contractors brought the illegal migrants as manual labourers. But the contractors were not aware of the nationality of those labourers.

�The infiltration in the porus Indo-Bangla border is responsible for it,�� he added.

Yesterday at 9-30am, 21 suspected Bangladeshi nationals got down from the Intercity Express at Mariani junction wherefrom the Mariani unit of AASU picked them up. Later, they were handed over to the Mariani police and a case was registered in this context at Mariani PS.

When contacted Dip Dutta, general secretary of AASU, Mariani unit told this correspondent that no one from the group could understand the Assamese language. They could not produce any identity proof in their support. There were incongruous in their expressions regarding their age and residence.

On the other hand, the Deberapara unit of AASU activists picked up another suspected person, namely Anowar Ali Miyan last night from the area and handed over him to the police of Deberapara police outpost.
