AASU picketers attacked

NALBARI, Jan 27 - BJP workers today resorted attacked AASU picketers when they were staging a sit-in demonstration at Ghograpar during the visit of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Health and Finance Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma among others to lay the foundation stone of the Nalbari Medical College at Borigaon today.

A thousand bikers of BJP welcomed the guests by a rally. When the Chief Minister with his ministerial colleagues passed the Ghograpar High School, the protesters raised slogans against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016. They also showed the black flags to the ministers. Then the BJP workers attacked the AASU picketers with lathis. Four AASU activists were injured in the attack. The police arrested three AASU protesters.

The Nalbari district unit of the AASU has strongly condemned the attack. They also lodged an FIR at the Ghograpar Police Station.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal laid the foundation stone of the Nalbari Medical College to be constructed at a cost of Rs 350 crore. The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone of a road project from Ghograpar to Bijulighat to be constructed at a cost of Rs 80 crore. In the foundation laying ceremony Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Industry minister Chandra Mohan Patowari, among others took part.
