AASU leader, two others join BJP

DIBRUGARH, June 2 - Former vice-president, finance secretary and present adviser to the Dibrugarh district unit of the All Assam Students� Union (AASU) Dibyajyoti Hazarika alias Biju joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) along with two others yesterday evening.

Biju was one of the active AASU leaders, who was at the forefront during protests against the BJP-led government over Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

He joined the ruling party along with businessman Jayant Gogoi and musician Mrinal Baruah in the presence MLA Prasanta Phukan, MLA Rituparna Baruah, district BJP president Jagdish Rajkonwar, DDA chairman Ashim Hazarika and other BJP leaders during a small function held at the party�s office here.

Donation to PM Cares Fund: The National Small Savings Agents Association, headquartered at Tinsukia, today donated a cheque of Rs 2,01,111 to PM Cares Fund to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

The small savings agents, popularly known as postal agents, are authorised by the Finance department to collect money from investors and deposit the same to post offices for which they draw certain commission.

The agents� body collectively donated the amount in response to an appeal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stated Prithwith Bhattacharjee, president, and Manoj Kumar Mishra, general secretary of the association in a press release.
