JORHAT, Feb 5: The AASU State Assistant General Secretary Jul Khound on Thursday laid the foundation-stone of the proposed Swahid Bhawan beside the Vocational Collegiate School here.

The Jorhat district unit President of AASU Bijoy Shankar Bordoloi, who anchored the function organised on the occasion, said that the building to be constructed under the initiative of the students' body will house a free coaching centre for students interested to appear in competitive examinations.

He said that a free computer training centre for students too will also be functioning from the building. Bordoloi said that the AASU had undertaken the initiative for the benefit of students belonging to economically backward families.
Khound, speaking on the occasion, hoped that the project (Swahid Bhawan) will be to provide an opportunity to meritorious students to pursue higher education and try to build bright careers.

Stating that the district administration had allotted the plot of land to construct the building of Swahid Bhawan in 2017, Khound said that the building will also have rooms for presidents and secretaries of Jorhat district, Jorhat Jorhat Sub-division and Jorhat regional units of AASU. Offices of Asom Sena and Asom Unnati Sabha (Jorhat district units) too will be set up in the building.

He further said that a conference hall and an auditorium too will be part of the building besides setting up of a Swahid Bedi and flag hoisting point in the compound of the Swahid Bhawan.

Jorhat district unit AASU General Secretary Dip Dutta, Executive member of State Central committee of the students' body Jitu Neog, Adviser of Jorhat district unit AASU Rajib Bora, President of construction committee of the Swahid Bhawan, Lalit Bora, a former journalist and noted musician and a singer Jayanta Nath were among those who attended the ceremony.Attachments area
