GUWAHATI, April 24 Alleging that the recent statements on the NRC update issue by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is completely misleading, the All Assam Students Union (AASU) today said that it has been consistently raising the demand of updating the NRC since 1980 in the tripartite talks between the Union and State governments and the students body and on various other occasions.

It may be mentioned that the Chief Minister has been asserting recently that he was responsible for initiating the process of NRC update in the State.

In a statement, the students body said that in the year 1990 it had submitted the detailed modalities of NRC update to the Union government and the issue was again raised in 2005 at the Prime Ministerial level talks.
