AASU distributes aid to storm-hit families

NALBARI, May 3 - The Nalbari district unit of All Assam Students� Union (AASU) on Monday distributed roofing material among three shelterless families of Chaplekuchi village in the district, who were rendered homeless following a severe hailstorm recently.

The AASU unit handed over the roofing material to the victims, namely Phukan Boro, Deobar Boro and Labanya Brahma of the village. The president and secretary of Nalbari AASU Himan Barman and Pranab Barman handed over the material along with cash to the families at a brief function held at the premises of the Swahid Bhawan.

The Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University, Dr Mridul Hazarika too visited the worst-affected families at Chaplekuchi village along with a team comprising members of the university fraternity and extended financial help to the ill-fated families.

The Nalbari AASU unit alleged that the State Government has till date not taken any step to rehabilitate the storm-affected families of the district. It may be mentioned here that repeated severe storms have affected many people in various parts of the district.
