JORHAT, May 22 In a protest against the district administrations alleged hesitation in taking legal action to stop illegal parking in several busy points here hundreds of members of the Jorhat sub-divisional unit of All Assam Students Union (AASU) today demanded proper action against the wrongdoers who have apparently caused unprecedented traffic-problems across the city.
The district administration has not taken initiative to free the areas from illegal parking though we submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner a week ago. Illegal parking has caused tremendous problem across the city and the cases of accidents are spiralling due to it, said Kukil Das, president of the sub-divisional unit of AASU.
He said that students of various schools and colleges had to face problems due to traffic-jam in every morning as violators of traffic guidelines parked their passenger-carriers even on the busy roads and lanes.
The nexus of politician, lessees and a section of corrupt officials of the district administration and police personnel was alleged to be the main cause of administrations hesitation to free the locations from illegal parking.
According to the AASU protesters officials of the Transport department also conspicuously refrained from checking the necessary documents of several owners of three-wheelers, which were seen violating traffic rules on a daily basis in the city.
As the officials concerned of the district transport authority issued hundreds of licenses earlier to the owners of the passenger-carrying three-wheelers the city witnessed massive noise pollution from the growing number of such vehicles which were parked here and there in the city.
