GUWAHATI, June 12 - Asking the State government to make the examination and result declaration process in the State free from errors and anomalies, the All Assam Students� Union has demanded firm steps to uproot academic corruption from the State education sector.
The student body which felicitated the rank holders of HS, HSLC, High Madrassa examinations along with their teachers, and candidates clearing the UPSC examinations this year, lamented the fact that despite putting in their best efforts, the examinees face constant mental stress due to one or the other anomaly during major examinations in Assam.
Altogether 90 students, 62 teachers and nine out of 18 candidates clearing the UPSC exams were felicitated in the District Library auditorium here on Monday.
Addressing the gathering, AASU president Dipanka Kumar Nath said that the major goof-up in the Higher Secondary exams brought to light by the AASU still awaits a thorough probe by CID or the CM Vigilance Cell. �The issue demands a proper enquiry by either of the agencies as there is an apprehension about involvement of people from within the system. An enquiry by CID is also pending since 2016. Many more students would have done well had the education department acted in time,� Nath added.
Vice Chancellor of the Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University Dr Hitesh Deka expressed concern at the prevalence of rampant corruption at the upper strata of society, having the workforce with sharpest brains. �It�s not the ranks or marks that make us great or productive, rather, it�s our conduct and contribution in society that makes a difference,� he said, advocating the ranking and �pass-fail� systems in the exams.
NC Talukdar, Director of Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology said it is imperative for the younger generation to stay updated with latest developments in the field of science and technology.
AASU advisor Dr Samujjal Bhattacharyya spoke in favour of continuing with the ranking system in the HS and HSLC exams.
