GUWAHATI, Jan 4 The All Assam Students Union (AASU) and its ally 26 ethnic organisations today welcomed the initiative taken by the Group of Ministers (GoM) to hold discussion with the anti-mega dam agitators, said AASU advisor Samujjal Bhattacharyya.

The students body and its allies today discussed in a threadbare manner all the issues concerning the Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Power Project (LHSEP) and the other mega dam projects proposed to be set up in the NE region.

The organisations expressed the hope that the tangle over the mega dam issue, including the LSHEP, could be solved amicably through discussion. But for the purpose, the Government should have the genuine interest to safeguard the interest of the State, the organisations observed.
