AASAA seeks CBI probe into Pengeree case

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, May 12: The All Adivasi Students Association of Assam (AASAA) has sought intervention of the Governor in the matter of the Pengeree incident that saw the death of 13 Adivasis.

The student body today submitted a memorandum to the Governor insisting on a CBI inquiry into the tragic incident, suspension of the officer in-charge of Pengeree Police Station, compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the kin of the deceased, compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the injured and free medical treatment to the injured.

The Adivasis are always made soft targets whenever our community comes out to demand their rights. We are already deprived of our basic rights and now we feel that we have lost our right to live in Assam, said the student body, warning that if its demands are not met within 10 days it will take up vigorous agitational programmes in the days to come.
