Aaranyak workshop from Nov 15

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 1 - Environment group Aaranyak will hold a four-day training workshop for researchers, practitioners and mediapersons on Sustainable management of the Brahmaputra river system in a changing climate for water security at the Indian Institute of Bank Management here from November 15.

The event, being organised with support from the Hyderabad-based Saci Waters Cap-Net Network for South Asia and the Pune-based Forum for Policy Dialogue on Water Conflicts in India, will focus on the major issues concerning management of the Brahmaputra, which are of the local, national and international nature and have posed challenges to the ecological wellbeing of the river and its use for the welfare of the people, said the organisers in a press release.

The organisers said the training is aimed at addressing the needs of three specific target groups young researchers from universities, colleges, autonomous institutes and NGOs working in different water resources management aspects in the context of the Brahmaputra basin, especially in Assam; young professionals and practitioners, including the officials in service in relevant government departments and agencies; media people working in print, electronic and Internet, who are reporting on Assams water and climate change issues. About 30 participants will be trained in this programme.

The organisers are keen on involving the young people, with special emphasis on woman candidates, in the exercise. There is no bar on age. The interested can contact the Aaranyak office before November 5.
