GUWAHATI, Sept 5 - Aaranyak, an environmental NGO and scientific and industrial research organisation, signed an MoU with Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) on Tuesday for facilitating coordination between the Centre for Rural Technology IITG and Aaranyak in matters of common interest.
The MoU was signed by Dr Bibhab Talukdar, CEO and secretary general of Aaranyak and Prof Gautam Biswas, Director of IIT, in presence of officials of both the organisations.
�Through this initiative, both the organisations intend to combine efforts to achieve their common objectives of addressing India�s development challenges through partnership, especially in the north-eastern region. Both the organisations expect to cooperate on initiatives within areas of common interest and to work together on projects that reflect their shared values within the potential areas of cooperation,� an Aaranyak spokesperson said.
He added that both the organisations anticipated collaboration around various themes including promotion of rural entrepreneurship, sustainable rural livelihood and skilling, technology input to mitigate human-wildlife conflict, monitoring species and habitat, application of rural technology in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation, development of new and innovative technology and application for improving quality of drinking water and safe sanitation, especially designing and construction of toilets, knowledge creation and dissemination, biomass-based energy technology for household application, popularisation of biogas and vermicompost, etc.
Specific joint efforts would also include the domain of sustainable livelihoods where both the organisations would work in the areas of handloom, agri and allied sectors, especially on turmeric, ginger, chilli and banana and clean energy.
