KAZIRANGA, Dec 5 - Aaranyak, a biodiversity conservation organisation, today gifted one 4WD Mahindra Bolero Campus vehicle each to Golaghat and Nagaon police at a function held at Kohora Police Guest House to further strengthen the measures to check wildlife crimes in and around Kaziranga National Park-cum-Tiger Reserve. Sustained efforts and joint operations conducted by the police and Forest Department in the districts adjoining Kaziranga have led to a decline in poaching activities.

The event was attended by Director of Kaziranga National Park-cum-Tiger Reserve P Shiva Kumar, Golaghat Superintendent of Police Pushparaj Singh, Nagaon Superintendent of Police Gaurav Abhijit Dilip, and members of Aaranyak, among others. Speaking on the occasion, CEO of Aaranyak Dr Bibhab Talukdar said police and Forest department had been playing a very active role in checking wildlife crimes in the areas adjoining Kaziranga. He hoped that the addition of two 4WD Mahindra Bolero Campus vehicles will help in maintaining strict vigil in order to check any poaching activities.

The SPs of both Golaghat and Nagaon districts appreciated the gesture of Aaranyak and reiterated the commitment of Assam Police in checking wildlife crimes in the State.

In August this year, Aaranyak had presented one 4WD Mahindra Bolero Campus vehicle to Karbi Anglong Police to speed up the efforts to check wildlife crimes.

The forest officials acknowledged the fact that Aaranyak had been providing logistical support to Kaziranga National Park from time to time, for which quick actions could be taken in terms of rescuing wild animals and checking wildlife crimes.
