JORHAT, March 3 - The 22-day mass membership drive launched by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Jorhat district since Monday has yielded an encouraging response from people, especially youths in the last two days.

Claiming of getting a warm response from general people, especially youths, the Jorhat district coordinator of AAP Prasanta Bora told this newspaper today that over 500 persons, mostly young people, took membership of AAP in the drive started at the busy AT Road near the Jorhat Municipal Board office building in during the last two days.

Bora said that people, on vehicles and pedestrians, were attracted by the banners with photographs of party chief Arvind Kejriwal put up by them. People visited their counter to know about the party.

He said majority of the people who came to the counter wished to be members of AAP and filled the membership forms. Bora said that though there was a joining fee of Rs 10, those taking membership during the mass membership drive will be exempted from the fee.

Bora said that it was very encouraging to see people showing interest towards AAP, the party which takes a zero tolerance approach towards corruption not only in slogans, but practically.

He said that reports and stories of Delhi Governments performance in the past five years and an overwhelming victory in the polls last month seems to have attracted the common people.

Gautam Goswami, AAP Jorhat Assembly Constituency Coordinator, said that leaflets having the goals of AAP and a mobile number for giving a missed call were also being distributed among the people to join the Rashtriya Nirman Abhiyan under way across the country.

Goswami said that any person interested to join the Rashtrya Abhiyan of the party and thereafter becoming an AAP member, will have to give a missed call to 9871010101 after which a message will reach the number from which the missed call was given and certain information of the potential member will be sought.

After providing the required information the person who gave the missed call will be made a member, Goswami said. He said that the street membership drive will be carried out in different areas across the district.
