Aaideo Handique remembered

MANGALDAI, Dec 18 - The members of �Aaideo Talkies�, a cultural organisation of the State and film lovers of Mangladai paid rich tribute to Aaideo Handique, the first actress of Assamese cinema on her death anniversary here on Saturday evening.

In this connection, the Darrang district unit of Aaideo Talkies in collaboration with another local socio-cultural organisation �Crystal Vision� organised a brief public function at LNB Road near �Fun Cinema� where rich tributes were paid to this legendary film artiste.

Swapan Kr Ghosh, prominent actor lit the lamp before the portrait of Aaideo Handique while many others including office bearers of Aaideo Talkies, Ratna Das and Pappu Kabeer respectively, Sekhar Mazumdar of Crystal Vision spoke on the occasion after offering floral tribute to the pioneering artiste of Assamese movies. Speakers urged the State Government to take up some practical plan so that the artistic talent and sacrifices of Aaideo Handique always remain fresh in the memory of the younger generation. Earlier, Manab Pratim Das, president of the Darrang district unit of Aaideo Talkies gave a brief account of the life and works of Aaideo Handique.

It may be mentioned here that born in Panidihingiya village of Golaghat, unmarried Aaideo Handique passed away on December 17 in 2002. Meanwhile Aaideo Talkies, a non-government organisation formed with a view to popularise Assamese cinema through mobile movie display concept has introduced a life time achievement award in the name of Aaideo Handique from this year and the award was already given to Hemanta Dutta at Mangaldai, a couple of months back. Moreover, the organisation celebrated its third foundation day at the residence of Aaideo Handique in the month of August last.
