GUWAHATI, April 10 - Kalyanmayee, the women welfare wing of Airports Authority of India (AAI) which includes female employees and family members of AAI employees, has also come forward to help needy people in their fight against coronavirus.
Kalyanmayee members at Guwahati and other airports in the NE region are collecting unused cloths, bedsheets and similar materials from households to make masks. They aim to prepare about 10,000 masks for free distribution among needy people including maids, cleaning staff, security guards, taxi drivers, e-rickshaw drivers, hawkers, etc.
Approximately 3,000 masks prepared by self-help groups (SHGs) have already been stocked. These self-help groups, especially womens SHGs, have tailored clothes and made masks for Kalyanmayee.
In the north-eastern region, we are using old extra uniform cloths lying unutilised first as due to the lockdown, no shops are open in cities like Dibrugarh and Guwahati. Through this initiative, we have provided employment opportunity to the self-employed, and the SHGs. Masks are made under the supervision of Kalyanmayee members maintaining all hygiene protocol. AAI has prepared these masks with minimum cost and these will be distributed free of cost to needy people, AAI sources stated.
If required more such masks will be prepared considering the requirement in the region.
