AAI appoints transgender activist as its advocate

GUWAHATI, Nov 19 - The Airports Authority of India (AAI) today appointed activist and founder of the All Assam Transgender Association, Swati Bidhan Baruah, as its empanelled advocate.

Regional Executive Director of the AAI Sanjeev Jindal handed over the letter of empanelment to Baruah during a workshop for transgenders held on the premises of the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport as part of its project Equality.

�For transgenders, finding a job is a challenge and employing them is just as difficult. We are trying to find jobs in various sectors. Now, the AAI has come forward to help our cause, which means a lot to us. I would request all the stakeholders to uphold the Right to Equality,� Baruah said at the workshop.

Ramesh Kumar, Airport Director of Guwahati, stated that enhancing skills of the members of the transgender community as per their interest and getting them employed at the Guwahati airport will be a priority.
