Aadhaar enrolment work put on hold

GUWAHATI, Feb 15 - The State government has issued directions to the deputy commissioners of all the districts to keep on hold the ongoing process of normal Aadhaar enrolment work and to instead deploy the manpower and machines being used at the Aadhaar enrolment centres at the NRC hearing centres for Biometric Enrolment Exercise (BME).

An order to this effect has been issued by Dr M Angamuthu, Commissioner and Secretary of General Administration Department.

The BME of the left-out NRC applicants started at the NRC hearing centres today under the supervision of the State Home and Political Department.

�... request you to take necessary steps/actions to keep on hold the ongoing process of normal Aadhaar enrolment works for the time-being in the districts and deploy the manpower and kits and machines presently on operation in all the normal Aadhaar enrolment centres in the NRC hearing centres for BME exercise with immediate effect. In this regard you are also requested to take steps for dissociation of operators� ID presently on operation for Aadhaar enrolment works in consultation with UIDAI, Regional Office, Guwahati, immediately. Besides, the vendors/firms who are working (sic) Aadhaar enrolment works in the respective districts may be asked to shift the manpower and machinery from the Aadhaar centres to NRC hearing centres accordingly,� stated the official communication.
