Aadhaar card works in Jorhat dist from Oct 6

JORHAT, Sept 28 - The work of issuing Aadhaar cards will begin in Jorhat district from October 6.

An order issued by the administration yesterday evening stated that work on issuing the cards will be carried out in 45 centres across the district by people selected by the government.

The order said that the centres will function on all working days from 10 am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm with work for 15 applicants to be done in each session � 30 applicants per day.

Though applicants will be provided service on first-come first-served basis, priority will be given to differently-abled and elderly people, and also to women coming along with their babies, the order said.

The order further stated that providing application forms in the centres and the process of obtaining Aadhaar cards was free and any person asking for fee was illegal, which should be immediately brought to the notice of the administration. The applicants will receive their Aadhaar cards through post.

The centres should have notices hung mentioning the documents required to be submitted for applying for Aadhaar cards, the order said, adding that signboards mentioning the centres for applying for Aadhaar cards in a manner noticeable to people will have to be put up.

Jorhat Additional Deputy Commissioner Jayanta Kumar Goswami will be supervising the process, the order said.
