A week after polls, officials collecting ballots trigger curiosity in Cachar

Silchar, March 9: In a strange development, a week after second phase of Assembly election were held, an incident of officials bearing identification cards from the Election Commission of India were seen collecting ballots from various places in the city has triggered curiosity among masses.

Mysteriously, on Thursday night, two such officials were found at Moulabi Road area and when hurled with questions by locals, they said they had come to collect ballot papers.

Meanwhile, responding to the queries by the media after the incident, Cachar Deputy Commissioner claimed that the District Administration has no information about the chores of the officials during night. She assured that strictest action would be taken against the officials.

"We have no information as to why these officials are moving at this hour. They are not on any official duty. We will take strictest action against them right away," the Deputy Commissioner maintained.
