DIPHU, Aug 31 - Assam Police served a blow to a drug smuggling gang, when staff of Manja PS on Friday seized 96,000 WY tablets (commonly known as �World is yours�) during a routine check from a truck from Manipur.
WY are methamphetamine tablets that contain methamphetamine, an extremely addictive stimulant drug along with caffeine
The police team that intercepted the truck was headed by Manja PS officer in charge Jitumoni Deka. The tablets are estimated to be worth around Rs 5 crore in the international market.
The consignment was concealed in the tool box of the 12-wheeler truck (NL-07-A-8201) coming from Manipur and which was heading for Guwahati when it was stopped at Manja police check gate.
A man identified as Imran Khan of Kokta village under Moirang PS in Bishnupur district of Manipur was arrested. On receiving information, DSP Nahid Karishma rushed to Manja to administer the operation. Police registered a case under various sections of the NDPS Act and has taken custody of the drugs.
It is pertinent to state here that the route from Myanmar border to Guwahati through Manipur and Nagaland has become the choice of international drug lords to smuggle various narcotics through various means. However, Karbi Anglong police has successfully prevented a number of smuggling attempts.
