955 stranded persons return to Meghalaya

SHILLONG, May 6 - Altogether 955 stranded persons entered Meghalaya from different parts of the North East till 6 pm on Wednesday.

According to figures available, the maximum number of 557 people entered through the Byrnihat check gate in Ri-Bhoi district, followed by 277 people who entered through the Bajengdoba check gate in North Garo Hills district.

As many as 76 persons entered through the Ratacherra gate in East Jaintia Hills district and 45 people through the Tikrikilla gate in West Garo Hills district.

The Meghalaya Government started to take in the people belonging to the State, who are stranded in other North Eastern States, from Tuesday.

The returning persons are being screened and tested, if necessary, at the check gates.

They will have to undergo a 14-day quarantine at home, together with their family members once they are back, the Government has notified.
