935 ha of KNP land under encroachment

NEW DELHI, July 12 - The Centre has revealed that only 935 ha (Sixth Addition Area) out of a total of 40,150 ha of the Kaziranga National Park is under encroachment and the remaining has been handed over to the Kaziranga Tiger Reserve authorities.

In a Lok Sabha reply to a question, Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Babul Supriyo said that only the first and fourth addition areas of the national park are encroachment free and have been handed over to the Kaziranga National Park authorities.

For the second, third and fifth addition areas a land acquisition proposal as per the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Re-settlement Act, 2013 was prepared by the State for an amount of Rs 104.7 crore, for which the Government of India under Project Tiger sanctioned Rs 12.71 crore for the second addition, and released Rs 3.35 crore in March, 2018.
