GUWAHATI/DIPHU/KOKRAJHAR, March 11 � The counter-insurgency operations today gave another major jolt to the militant groups as nine militants belonging to the Songbijit faction of the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB), Karbi People�s Liberation Tigers (KPLT) and Muslim Liberation Tigers of Assam (MULTA) were arrested in different operations today, while two members of the United Achik Liberation Army (UALA) surrendered.

In the first operation by Panabari-based Army troops of Agia Brigade under the Red Horns Division and Assam Police, two hardcore militants of NDFB(S) � Bilifang Brahma and Khampu Brahma, were apprehended from Barshijhar area in Chirang district. Bilifang was involved in grenade lobbing on an Army camp at Panabari in Chirang district last year, besides many cases of kidnapping and extortion. Khampu was also involved in kidnapping and extortion activities.

In another development, two UALA militants surrendered to Goalpara-based Army troops and Meghalaya Police in North Garo Hills district of Meghalaya. Those who surrendered were self-styled sergeant major Krenibirth Momin alias Kakkam G Momin and self-styled corporal Chenpang N Marak. Both of them had joined the ANVC breakaway faction in 2012 and subsequently joined the UALA in 2013.

Arsek, Chinthong area commander of KPLT and Bidya Sing Kro alias Laher (a dreaded KPLT cadre) along with two linkmen namely Prakash Teran and Sarmen Bey, were today apprehended by a joint team of Army and Assam Police from village Umlapher in Hamren sub-division of west Karbi Anglong.

In another operation, a joint team of Army and police nabbed two KPLT militants from a hut on a hilltop at Umlapher.

On-the-spot questioning of the two KPLT men led to further apprehension of two linkmen from the nearby village Lounghanjhar.

A 9 mm pistol along with five live rounds, two hand grenades (including one Chinese) and incriminatory documents like extortion notes of KPLT and demand money receipts were recovered from the militants.

In yet another operation today around 6.50 am, Army troops of Agia Brigade under the Red Horns Division, along with Assam Police, apprehended a MULTA cadre Nur Ali (42), from his residence in Dhubri. A 9mm pistol, four rounds of live ammunition and a mobile phone were recovered from him.
