AIZAWL, June 24 - Nine cases related to human trafficking have been registered under Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act in Mizoram, according to State Home Minister Lalchamliana who informed the State Assembly on Monday.
Replying to a query from Dr Vanlaltanpuia of the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), Lalchamliana said the State Government has been making massive efforts to mitigate trafficking cases in the State. He also said that anti-human trafficking units have been set up in Aizawl and three border districts � Lunglei, Champhai and Kolasib.
Since recently, Mizoram has been used as safe passage for human trafficking by traffickers, which led the central committee of Young Mizo Association or CYMA to form a committee to study human trafficking route.
The State police has recently rescued, in separate locations, 16 Rohingya girls, who were suspected to be victims of human trafficking. The girls were believed to be brought from Bangladesh to be sent to Myanmar via Mizoram.
The State police had in April also rescued 23 Nepali girls, suspected to be victims of human trafficking, who were later handed over to the Nepal Government.
On June 12, a 31-year-old woman was arrested in Aizawl for abducting a minor for trafficking.
