9 injured in police firing at Dokmoka

DIPHU, April 10 � Nine persons were injured when police opened blank fire to disperse an angry crowd which was pelting stones at the Dokmoka-base Army camp protesting an alleged rape incident.

The pelting of stone by the agitated crowd, comprising hundreds of school students, local people and supporters of various organisations, also caused injuries to several police personnel present there.

Superintendent of Police MJ Mahanta immediately rushed to the spot. He later informed that the situation is under control.

It may be mentioned here that there is an alleged rape by some security personnel during an operation at Parkup Pahar under Dokmoka Police Station on April 6.

Demanding immediate arrest of the culprits, students, local people and supporters of different organisations protested today in front of the Dokmoka Army camp. But, the situation later turned into vigorous violence.

Meanwhile, altogether 11 organisations, including, KNCA. KSA, BJP Mahila Marsha, Karbi Anglong district unit called a � 24 hour Karbi Anglong bandh from April 11 starting from 5 am demanding immediate arrest and punishment to the army personnel involved in the rape incident.
