9 designated camps for ULFA soon

NALBARI, April 27 � The State Government has decided to set up nine more designated camps in the State for the cadres of the pro-talk ULFA, as per the directive of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

According to a high level police source, out of the nine new designated camps, two camps will be set up in Nalbari district, which is considered to be a hotbed of ULFA militants. Following the direction from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Nalbari district administration has selected a 20-bigha plot of land at Baniakuchi near Tihu for setting up one of the designated camp. The administrations is also looking for another spot. Sources added that at Baniakuchi site work on earth filling and construction of approach road to the camp are already going on.

The police source said that there is a need for a large plot of land for the designated camp as the ULFA leadership want to set up a self employment facility within the camp premise. He added that the other seven designated camps will be set up in Dhubri, Baihata Chariali, Morigaon and Golaghat but the process is still in preliminary stage.

It may be mentioned here that the �No 28 Battalion� of the outfit had set up a designated camp in Tinsukia district. Similarly, the outfit�s 709 Battalion had also set up a designated camp at Moiradonga in Nalbari district.

In absence of designated camp, set up by the administration, ULFA leaders like �foreign secretary� Sasha Chaudhury, �deputy commander in chief� Raju Baruah, �publicity secretary� Mithinga Daimari are living either at rented houses or in their own houses.
