GOALPARA, July 10 - The 86th birth anniversary celebration of veteran theatre artist Achyut Lahkar, who passed away on June 12 last in Barpeta, was organised by the Goalpara Sahitya Sabha (GSS) here yesterday.

The chief guest on the occasion, i.e., former actress of Natraj Theatre Kusumi Medhi started the day�s proceedings by paying floral tributes to the portrait of Achyut Lahkar along with a few others. Thereafter, different speakers shed light on the life and works as the founder of Natraj Theatre in 1963, besides the influence and rich legacy left behind in the field of mobile theatre.

The chief guest spoke about her acquaintance with the veteran artist as an actress and also on his activities in the realm of mobile theatre spanning several decades.

A CD titled Gandharba, which is a drama based on the life and works of Achyut Lahkar and created by Mahanayak, a cultural group based in Maligoan,Guwahati was screened at the venue.

The President of Goalpara Sahitya Sabha Dibakar Das,Vice President Dr Siddhi Nath Sharma, educationist Roma Baruah and Uttam Sarma, among others, spoke on the ocasion. The meeting was coordinated by veteran journalist Dilip Kumar Sarma.
