BADARPUR, Dec 9 - Panchayat polls in Karimganj district held today were by and large peaceful and nearly 80% polling was recorded.
District administration sources informed ANN Service that polling percentage picked up as the day progressed. Some untoward incidents like rigging allegations, breaking of election rules and regulations, party clashes, snatching of ballot papers etc., in some polling stations, including Badarpur were reported. Official sources also informed that in Karimganj district, the total polling was nearly 80 per cent which may increase further.
Our Staff Correspondent adds from Silchar: On the basis of complaints received of an Independent candidate running away with ballot papers from the polling centres at Latu-Sojpur Panchayat area close to the Indo-Bangla border in Karimganj, police took action and resumed polling after a stoppage of one hour, informed Karimganj SP Gaurav Upadhayay. He added to say that by and large the polling was peaceful.
