80 fall ill after consuming prasad at Sadiya

DOOMDOOMA, June 10 - At least 80 people fell ill after consuming prasad in a religious ceremony at Amarpur Teliabari village in Sadiya sub division of Tinsukia district on Friday.

According to reports, the villagers of Amarpur Teliabari village consumed �boot maah� as prasad after naam kirtan at the residence of one Jiten Kutum of the village. Gradually, the people started suffering from fever, headache and vomiting. At first they were treated at Amarpur PHC. But, when their condition deteriorated, they were shifted to Chapakhowa Civil Hospital, Sadiya. But, due to the lack of proper facilities in the hospital, all the patients were referred to Tinsukia Civil Hospital. The patients included 14children. Among them, the condition of one Manu Pegu ( 6 ) is said to be critical. She along with several others were sent to the AMCH, Dibrugarh.

According to the SDO (Civil) of Sadiya, Biswajit Phukan around 80 patients have reported in Chapakhowa FRU hospital and among them 67 were referred to Tinsukia Civil Hospital and AMCH, Dibrugarh. At present, the condition of all is stable, except Manu Pegu, who is in the ICU. A food poisoning and general disease camp will be held at Amarpur area tomorrow, the SDO added.
