8 killed, 23 hurt in bus accident

BONGAON (DERGAON), June 13 � Eight people died and 23 others injured at a road accident on NH-37 at Bongaon Badulipar under Dergaon PS in Golaghat district near here at around 4-30 am this morning.

According to police, the night bus coming from Guwahati to Tinsukia (No.NL-07-B-0044) collided head on with the truck carrying coal from Margherita to Delhi (No. PB-11-AN-9219). As a result, eight persons including the driver of the truck Nandir Singh (40) were killed and other 23 persons injured. Among them the condition of four were stated to be critical. The injured have been shifted to Golaghat Civil Hospital ,Bokakhkat and Dergaon by 108 service and private cars.

While talking with the other driver of the truck who managed to escape without injury, he revealed that the front tyre of the truck was bursted and the truck went to the wrong side. He further added that the speed of the bus was very high.

�After hearing a big sound I thought it to be a bomb blust. And then came out and saw the bus.� Pradip Sen who took out the bodies from the bus and also shifted the injured persons to the 108 told this correspondet.�The police came to the spot only after three hours and 108 services came after 45 minutes. Had the police come earlier some of the victims could have been saved.� �Both the vehicles were on high speed,� RN Changmai, OC, Dergaon PS opined.

Three other deceased have already been identified. They are � Ajoy Roy (35) of Sukanjan and Bipul Choudhury (38) of Guwahati, both drivers of the bus and Dilip Kumar Gogoi (62) of Moran, a passenger of the bus.
