IMPHAL Sept 19 - Eight workers sustained injuries when the ground flood roof of an under-construction cargo terminal building at the Imphal airport near here collapsed while they were engaged in the construction site.
The incident took place around 5.45 pm on Wednesday, reports available here said. Troops of the Tulihal Battalion of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) immediately rushed to the site and rescued the eight workers from the site, who were later given first aid by a medical team and immediately evacuated to the RIMS Hospital, a press release stated.
�An airway was made by the troops into the fallen debris to ensure inlet of air into the fallen debris and a thorough search of the debris was also carried out by sniffer dog of the battalion,�said the PRO, Assam Rifles (South), in the release. �The police, fire service and officials of the airport were immediately informed who also rushed to the site of accident,� the release added.
The Inspector General of Police, along with the Additional Chief Secretary, Disaster Management, the Director of the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, and other State civil and police officials also reached the location to inspect the accident site. Clearance of debris is still being done by fire service personnel.
Prompt action by the troops of the Assam Rifles has ensured zero loss of life in the accident, the release added.
