KOKRAJHAR, Aug 18 - During the last 24 hours, Kokrajhar police arrested eight persons from Ultapani village area near Indo-Bhutan border in Kokrajhar district following an FIR lodged by Forest officials.
According to sources, the arrested persons were involved in a mob attack at Ultapani forest office on Monday afternoon, which had severely damaged the forest office resulting in loss of properties.
Official sources said that on Monday afternoon, around 80 to 90 villagers from Ultapani village area attacked and ransacked the Ultapani forest office and badly damaged many vehicles belonging to the Forest department, which were parked in the forest office premises. The incident took place following the arrest of two timber smugglers of the area on Sunday night.
