8 drug peddlers sent to two-day police remand

SILCHAR, Sept 25 - Eight drug peddlers, including two Mizoram police officials, who were arrested on Saturday evening from Sadagram near Dholai under Cachar district, were sent to two-day police remand by a court in Silchar on Sunday.

The arrested persons have been identified as Dipu Sharma, a Mizoram police liaison officer (PLO) and Umesh Mishra, a havildar, both posted in Silchar; Gouvang (30) and her husband Lian Chung Mung (36), residents of Dwarka, Dhulsiras locality in South-West Delhi (permanent residence Churachandpur in Manipur); Suangohthang (30), also from Churachandpur in Manipur; Zoramthanga (28), Lalrinmoana (34) and Hmachhuana (23), residents of Bawngkawn locality of Aizawl in Mizoram. The accused were arrested with 87 kg of narcotic tablets worth Rs 35 lakh.

Meanwhile, Cachar SP Rakesh Raushan said that the arrested persons would further be interrogated in the police custody.
