7th Economic Census launched in Golaghat

DERGAON, Sept 14 - The 7th Economic Census was launched in Golaghat district on Thursday.

The census was ceremonially launched by Golaghat Deputy Commissioner Dhiren Hazarika at his conference hall. The census will be held in ten districts of the state during the first phase.

Delivering his speech, the Deputy Commissioner said that this time the census will be carried out digitally and would be completed within three months.

�The census will be carried out by the Common Service Centres (CSC) of the district where village-level entrepreneurs (VLE) will act as supervisor and will engage educated youths as enumerators,� he said.

At present, 12 supervisors and 550 enumerators have been engaged in the process in Golaghat district.

The inaugural session was moderated upon by the District Manager of CSCs Umakanta Bora and attended by the Junior Statistical Officer of the Regional Office of National Statistical Office at Jorhat, Monalisha Mandal, member secretary of the district coordinating committee Ranitya Saikia, Border Magistrate and DIPRO incharge Papu Gogoi, among others.

�The census will be carried out with the help of App Economic Census version 7.0 and youths with computer knowledge will act as enumerators,� Asfia Begum, a VLE of CSC and Supervisor of the census, said.

�This time the process will be streamlined and prompt as proper technology will be used,� she said.
