78th Foundation Day of CSIR celebrated

JORHAT, Oct 4 - CSIR-NEIST at Pulibor here celebrated the 78th Foundation Day of its apex body, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), with much zeal and enthusiasm on Thursday.

A press note issued by CSIR-NEIST stated that on the occasion, a special programme was held at Dr JN Baruah Auditorium of the institute, which was attended by an august gathering of dignitaries, invitees, eminent personalities from in and around Jorhat district.

Professor Saroj Kanta Barik, Director, CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow graced the function as the Chief Guest and delivered the Foundation Day lecture while Dr B Chandrasekharan, former Director, CSIR-Central Leather Research Institute, Chennai, was the Guest of Honour, the note said.

Professor Barik, while delivering the lecture, stressed upon collaboration and synergism among scientific institutions and called for collective efforts in bringing solutions to future science and technology challenges, the note added.

He mentioned that CSIR-NEIST had a greater responsibility to tap the rich biodiversity of the north-eastern region for its socio-economic development.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr B Chandrasekharan, appealed to all to introspect and learn from the past to move ahead in the future. He also emphasized for sustainability and doing things relevant to the needs of the people and problems of north-eastern region, the note stated.

Dr GN Sastry, Director, CSIR-NEIST, who presided over the function, earlier, in his welcome address, extended his warm greetings and highlighted significant technological interventions of CSIR over the years in various science and technology sectors.

Dr Sastry mentioned the contributions made in improving the quality of lives of the people, creating livelihood opportunities and other science and technology applications in environment, health, food, housing, farm and non-farm sectors, the note said.

On the occasion, CSIR-NEIST publication, �Annual Report 2018-19� was released by Professor Barik. As a part of the celebration, employees who retired during September 2018 to August 2019 were felicitated with CSIR Sanman Patras and mementoes, the note stated, adding that those employees who completed 25 years in the Council�s service were felicitated with token of gifts.

Certificates and prizes were also distributed among the winners of various competitions held on the occasion like drawing, essay, debate and quiz among the school students and staff members, the note said.
