78 pc turnout in first phase State LS polls

GUWAHATI, April 12 - The average final turnout in the five constituencies of the State which went to the polls in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections on Thursday stands at 78.23 per cent.

The data was released by the Election Commission this afternoon.

As per the data, the polling percentage in Kaliabor constituency stood at 82.09 per cent, while it was 79.15 per cent in Tezpur, 77.49 per cent in Jorhat, 77.26 per cent in Dibrugarh and 74.81 per cent in Lakhimpur constituency.

It is noteworthy that voting at various polling stations across the five constituencies had continued beyond 5 pm yesterday. The Election Commission had earlier only released the turnout which was reported till 5 pm.

In the last elections held in 2014, Lakhimpur had recorded polling of 77.75 per cent, Dibrugarh 79.26 per cent, Jorhat 78.32 per cent, Kaliabor had reported 80.11 per cent, and Tezpur had witnessed polling of 77.87 per cent.
