77 polling stations critical in Dhubri subdivision

DHUBRI, March 20 - As the Dhubri district administration is gearing up for the ensuing Lok Sabha polls, as many as 77 polling stations for the three Assembly constituencies of Dhubri subdivision have been enlisted as critical.

Talking to this correspondent, the election officer of the district, Jintu Bora, said that out of these 77 polling stations, three polling stations are in Dhubri LAC, while 44 are in Gauripur LAC and 30 are in Golokganj LAC.

Explaining more about the critical polling stations, Bora said, �These are the polling stations, which as per the guidelines of Election Commission of India are critical because in these polling stations 75 per cent of the votes polled goes to single candidate.� He also said that special care will be taken in these polling stations.

It was also informed that the officials have also identified 44 pockets in these three LACs as vulnerable, as the voters in these stations may be subjected to intimidation, threats or undue influences.

It may be mentioned here that alone in these three LACs, there are 5,72,856 voters out of which 1,87,578 are in Dhubri LAC, while in Golokganj and Gauripur LACs, there are 1,94,862 and 1,90,416 number of voters, respectively.

Meanwhile, the election office of Dhubri has been organising various awareness programmes on how to use VVPATs in the ensuing elections and the use of cVIGIL, an app to empower citizens to record and report any violation of the Model Code of Conduct.
