7.6 lakh voters can vote in ensuing Mizoram polls

AIZAWL, Sept 27 - There are 7,68,181 voters in Mizoram who are eligible to exercise their franchise in the State Assembly elections, due to be held in late November or early December this year.

State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) SB Shashank today released the final electoral roll to be used in the ensuing elections that saw a 11.19 per cent increase from the 2013 elections in which there were 6,90,860 voters.

There are 3,93,685 female voters in the final roll, who outnumber their male counterparts by 19,189 votes. There are male 3,74,496 voters.

The CEO said they received a total of 47,142 forms, including 25,351 for additions and transfer, 12,452 for deletion, 8,156 for modification and 2,034 for transposition.

There were 20,330 additions and 12,452 deletions, he said. Of the eight districts, the Aizawl district has the highest number of voters with 2,88,322, while the Siaha district has the least number of 38,843 voters.

Newmai News adds: Meanwhile, citing an ECI directive, Shashank said that no Bru voters would be allowed to exercise their franchise outside Mizoram in the forthcoming Assembly elections of Mizoram. He added that preparations for the forthcoming elections to the 40-member State Assembly are going on in full swing.
