SUALKUCHI, Jan 31 - The inaugural ceremony of the 75th biennial session of the Asam Sahitya Sabha was held at the Jyotikhetra here today.
The programme began with the opening of the Sualkuchi Jyotikhetra by Dr Dipak Kr Sarma, Vice- Chancellor, Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit And Ancient Studies University, which was followed by inauguration of the Budram Madhab Toran, which was erected in front of the main pandal by Dr Hemanta Kr Barua, vice-president, Asam Sahitya Sabha.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Barua said that the Asam Sahitya Sabha�s Sualkuchi session will be successful with the cooperation of the people of Sualkuchi. Dr Hitesh Deka, Vice-Chancellor, Krishna Kanta Handique University inaugurated the Padma Nath Gohainbarua Toran. Retired justice Gauhati High Court, Biplab Kr Sarma inaugurated the Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbaroa main pandal for accommodation of nearly 10,000 people. Dr. Amalendu Chakraborty, Vice-Chancellor of Rabindranath Tagore University, Hojai inaugurated the Atul Chandra Barua Manch (stage). While the Chandradhar Barua exhibition was inaugurated by Dr Basanta Kr. Bhatacharjya, the Bhagaban Mora exhibition mancha (stage) was inaugurated by Padum Rajkhowa, secretary, Asam Sahitya Sabha. Jatin Das, vice president, reception committee opened the Hemchandra Goswami Banijya Mela and Dibanga Gupta, General Manager, SBI inaugurated the stage erected inside the Banijya Mela. Dr. Pradip Bhuyan Temporary office of Asam Sahitya Sabha was inaugurated by Parthasarathi Mahanta, SP Kamrup. Later, the delegates� camp being constructed at Budram Madhab Satradhikar College was inaugurated by Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, DGP, Assam. Dipak Kr Das, the newly-elected president of the Asam Natya Sanmilan inaugurated the Dr Bhupen Hazarika mancha.
At 1pm, the Raghunath Choudhaury Kavi Sanmilan was held at the Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika Mancha which was inaugurated by Dr Lily Rajbongshi. At 2.30 pm, the Sualkuchi Jyoti, the souvenir brought out on the occasion was released by Parag Kumar Bhatacharjya. The other books which were released included Sualkuchi written by Dr Bhagaban Moral, Sualkuchir Buranji written by Ramesh Kalita, Bhakha Bisayak Grantha by Dr Khagen Chandra Deka, Kabya Kunja edited by Malin Kalita, Pradyot by Minal Das, Galpar Subas by Ranjit Kr Mahanta, Prabandha Kanan by Dr Nihar Ranjan Kalita. These books were released in a meeting held under the presidentship of Dr Hemanta Kr. Barua, vice-president, Asam Sahitya Sabha. The meeting was anchored by Padum Rajkhowa, secretary, Asam Sahitya Sabha.
