75% turnout in Bhergaon subdivision

KALAIGAON, Dec 7 - Seventy-five per cent polling was recorded in 1582 polling stations in Bhergaon subdivision in the BTC polls, 2020 held today. Polling was by and large peaceful. In some polling centres polling process was slow, due to which the voters had to wait in long queues. Polling officials were supported by two Home Guard personnel in each polling station.

Speaking to this correspondent, Gokul Chandra Brahma, Returning Officer, Bhergaon subdivision said that elaborate security arrangements were made to ensure peaceful polling. More than thousand Assam Police personnel were deployed for five BTC constituencies in Bhergaon subdivision. Brahma also informed that three armed police personnel were also deployed in each polling station.

The number of very sensitive polling stations in the subdivision was 22. In 31 Khwirwbari (ST) there were 77 polling stations (very sensitive-4); in 32 Bhergaon (ST) there were 79 polling stations; in 33 Nonai Serfang (non-ST) 68 polling stations (very sensitive-4); in 34 Khaling Duar (ST) 82 (very sensitive-2) and in 35 Mwiwibari (Open) total polling stations were 89 (very sensitive-12).

Six armed police personnel were deployed in each of the very sensitive polling stations in the subdivision. For smooth conduct of the election in Bhergaon, 10 ARO (Assistant Returning Officers), two in each constituency, 10 Zonal Officers, two in each seats; and 58 Sector Officers were engaged.

Total number of voters in all the five seats are � 2,98,705 (male-1,50,842, female-1,47,860 and third gender-3). Distribution of polling materials were done smoothly on December 6. Polling personnel, including police officials expressed much satisfaction over the excellent arrangement made for distribution of materials, refreshment and transportation by Returning Officer and other officials. Gokul Brahma, Returning Officer of Bhergaon and Shahnawas Choudhury, Observer of the subdivision have thanked the police and civil administration for successful holding of the polls.
