GUWAHATI, Aug 16 - Along with rest of the nation, the 73rd Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour all over the state too. Reports filed by our staff correspondents, correspondents and ANN Service are still trickling in. They are as under:
IN TEOK: The day was celebrated at various places in and around Teok on Thursday. The main function was held centrally at Teok ASTC campus where the Tricolour was unfurled by Bhaskar Jyoti Rajbongshi, circle officer of Teok Revenue Circle, an ANN Service report stated.
Addressing the gathering, he briefed about the nation�s development in different spheres since independence and narrated various developmental schemes initiated by the government for the welfare of the people.
Renupoma Rajkhowa, MLA of Teok LAC participating in the function as the guest of honour gave away the awards to different awardees for their contribution to the society.
Students from Mudoijan Kamalabari Sangeet Mahavidalaya and Nritanjalee Academy presented some cultural programmes at the function. CKB High School of Boloma, Kumarbheti LP School of Kawaimari also celebrated the day by organising various events among the students.
IN TINSUKIA: Along with the rest of the country, the 73rd Independence Day was celebrated amidst tight security at the Boys� Industrial Training Institute (ITI) ground at Boroguri here on Thursday, our Correspondent adds.
The Tricolour was unfurled by Agriculture Minister Atul Bora as chief guest of the function held on the occasion. He also took the salute of the march past that participated on the occasion. The marching contingents included Assam Police, NCC, Scouts and Guides and schoolchildren.
The chief guest elaborated on the developmental tasks undertaken in all the spheres, namely education, health, agriculture, industry, veterinary, fishery, road communication, land reforms policy etc. through various schemes that were presently being implemented by the State Government led by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
Speedy implementation of these schemes had drastically improved the socio-economic economy status of the people, especially the poor and rural people of the state.
He also informed that various projects for overall social welfare have been taken up by the Union Government for the people of Assam. He added that under the strong leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country had taken new shape, following which the world community had already acknowledged the strong and developed new India.
The chief guest distributed prizes to the winners of the march past, cultural programmes etc. Earlier, he garlanded the statue of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi at the Circuit House and paid tributes to the martyrs of the Freedom Struggle at the parade ground. Cultural programmes on the occasion were participated by school and college-going students as well as by cultural troupes.
The function was attended by MLA of Tinsukia Sanjay Kishan, Deputy Commissioner Oinam Sarankumar Singh, Superintendent of Police Siladitya Chetia, besides other Government officials and dignitaries.
IN HAILAKANDI: Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli unfurled the national tricolour at her office complex ground, our Correspondent adds.
Addressing the gathering after inspecting the guard of honour, DC Jalli said that the district administration is wholly committed to take the different welfare-oriented schemes of the central and state governments to the grassroots level and sought the cooperation of the people in this regard.
Spelling out the achievements, Jalli said 3,528 dwelling units have been constructed under the Prime Minister�s Awas Yojana, while 84,614 individual household latrines were built by the Public Health Engineering Department under the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan.
On the education front, Jalli said that the number of �D� grade schools have come down following academic assessment under Gunotsav and infrastructure development of educational institutions under Sarba Siksha Abhiyan.
The Deputy Commissioner said the administration has banned plastic items to make Hailakandi district plastic free and has embarked on a special plantation of around 300 local flowering trees to make the district verdant and beautiful.
�Under the Health Department, institutional delivery has registered a rise coupled with fall in infant and maternal mortality rates,� said Jalli, adding that under the National Social Assessment Programme of the Panchayat and Rural Development Department, 19,076 senior citizens had availed old-age pension.
Jalli said the administration has initiated steps to conserve water through rain water harvesting and has made it mandatory in the building bylaws for provision of rain water harvesting in areas falling under the municipal board and town committee.
Further, the Deputy Commissioner stated that the district administration had recently launched an ambitious programme titled Udyam, which was a free coaching facility to enable poor but meritorious students to crack civil and other competitive examinations, for which the selection process was on.
Colourful cultural programmes were arranged on the occasion. Commendation certificates and mementos were given away to the best march past contingents (professional and non-professional), awards to best practice SHGs and VOs, best performing ASHAs, felicitation to progressive farmers, sportspersons, dairy farmers, district toppers, winners of speech, essay, quiz and painting competitions as well as distribution of ceiling allotment certificates to landless people by the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and other dignitaries.
Earlier, the DC accompanied by officials of the district administration paid tribute to the martyrs at the Jatiyo Swahid Smarak.
Patriotic movies were screened for children by E Media Association at Rabindra Bhawan. A friendly football match was also organised to mark the occasion.
IN MANGALDAI: Darrang district along with rest of the state observed the day amidst tremendous enthusiasm and gaiety, a report by our Correspondent states.
The Darrang district administration in association with educational institutions and local public organisations celebrated Independence Day with a three-day agenda along with socio-cultural, educational and sports programmes.
In the centrally-organised main function of the celebration at the Kachari Maidan on Thursday, Minister of State (Independent) for Revenue and Irrigation Bhabesh Kalita as the chief guest hoisted the national flag in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Dass, Superintendent of Police Amrit Kumar Bhuya, Mangaldai parliamentarian Dilip Saikia, two BJP legislators of the district Gurujyoti Das and Binanda Kumar Saikia, freedom fighters Madhab Chandra Barua, Durga Chandra Bhattacharya and Sachin Deka, besides government officials and staff and thousands of freedom-loving local people.
Minister Kalita in his speech as the chief guest recalled the sacrifices of the martyrs and freedom fighters with special reference to the historic Peasants� Uprising of Pathorughat in Darrang district in 1894.
The State Revenue Minister highlighted a couple of important developments in his department, including preparation to offer land pattas to one lakh landless indigenous families just after the completion of the NRC process and the possible prompt action at the district and sub divisional level for carrying out eviction drive to free encroached land of the �Sattras� as per the provisions of the Assam Land and Revenue Regulation Act (Amended) , 1886.
Earlier, the chief guest took the guard of honour offered by the contingents of the Assam Police, Home Guards, NCC, Scouts and Guides and paramilitary forces. The celebration also witnessed colourful cultural presentations and felicitation to several people for their outstanding contribution in their respective fields, including Padma Shri recipient eminent surgeon Dr Ilias Ali, Parvati Prasad Barua Award recipient eminent lyricist and writer Idris Ali, upcoming writer and recipient of the Sahitya Academy�s youth Literary Award Dr Sanjib Pal Deka, distinguished lyricist and mouzadar Prabhat Narayan Choudhury, farmer Khirod Sarma, village head Lokeswar Saharia, mediaperson Gagan Saharia, dedicated staff of the Deputy Commissioner�s establishment Rantu Deka and Jainal Abedin, among others.
IN KALAIGAON: Independence Day was celebrated at Kalaigaon, Tangla and sub-divisional headquarters Bhergaon with pomp and gaiety, our Correspondent adds.
At Kalaigaon, Biraj Kumar Barua, Circle Officer of Kalaigaon Revenue Circle hoisted the Tricolour at the Gandhi Bakori before taking the salute of the march past contingents in the presence of thousands of people.
Circle Officer Baruah offered his sincere tribute to thousands of martyrs who had sacrificed their lives for the freedom of Mother India.
He made special mention about the contribution of the freedom fighters of Kalaigaon for sacrificing their lives for the freedom of India. He also spoke about abolishing social evils and maintenance of a clean environment along with communal harmony.
Further, he appealed to all to offer their support and be involved in all development and welfare-related activities of the government. Various cultural and sporting events were also organised on the occasion.
In the march past, Kalaigaon HS School, Jnandeep Academy and Vivid Academy won the first three prizes respectively. Tulika Bora, Bhadra Kanta Basumatari, Saddam Hussain, Bijit Saikia, Binoy Das, Rajendra Rabha and Mahadeb Nath were felicitated for their social contribution in their respective fields.
IN Bhergaon: At the sub-divisional headquarter Bhergaon, Gokul Chandra Brahma, ADC-cum-SDO (Civil) incharge of Bhergaon hoisted the Tricolour at Mahakumadhipati Bakori in the presence of nearly 7,000 people, our Correspondent from Kalaigaon adds.
He took the guard of honour from 18 march past contingents, including Assam Police and NCC.
In his public address, ADC Brahma spoke about the glorious cultural heritage of different ethnic groups of Bhergaon sub-division. He also mentioned about developmental activities undertaken in Bhergaon sub-division.
He urged the people to maintain peace and communal harmony in society. The sub-divisional administration felicitated Harekrishna Mahanta of Borongajuli Satra for his commendable activities in bringing together people with different ideologies.
Tangla College, Bhergaon Ucha Bidyapith and Bhergaon Junior College won the first three places in the march past. Several distinguished people, namely MLAs Maheswar Boro and Kamali Basumatari; besides Jagadish Sarkar, Lwmsrao Daimari and Bonjar Daimari (EMs of BTC); Nerson Boro, Deputy Speaker of BTC etc., were present on the occasion. Sports and cultural activities were arranged in the afternoon.
IN TANGLA: Circle Officer Rituttam Bora of Harisinga Revenue Circle hoisted the national flag at Tangla HS School playground in the presence of nearly 6,000 people, our Correspondent from Kalaigaon adds.
In his public address, Bora elaborated about various government schemes and requested the people to embrace Swachh Bharat Abhijan and plant more trees.
In the march past, 31 contingents in addition to NCC and Scouts participated. The Tangla College NCC (girls) team won the first prize in the NCC and Scouts section while Auxilium Convent HS (girls); National Pioneer Junior College and UN Academy won the first three places in order of merit. Public felicitation was accorded to Dr Rita Boro for literature, singer Kalyanee Deka, sportsman Khargeswar Boro, social activist Manmohan Das, small tea grower Pramod Hazarika, trader Pradip Saha and VDP Makubur Rahman. Various cultural and sporting activities were also held, much to the delight of the people.
IN MORIGAON: Along with the rest of the country, the day was observed with enthusiasm. Amidst a huge gathering, the national flag was hoisted at the Tarun Ram Phukan playground by Deputy Commissioner Rituraj Bora, our Correspondent adds.
Addressing the gathering, the DC paid glowing tributes to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi under whose guidance the Indian Freedom Struggle achieved success.
Referring to implementation of several development schemes in Morigaon district, the DC said that despite obstacles by devastating floods in the district, the government machinery was trying their level best to show good performance in PWD, PHE and agriculture sectors in the district.
In the government function held at TR Phukan plagrounnd, noted author Mileswar Pator, music researcher of Tiwa language Lakhi Bordoloi, progressive farmer Hiren Sarma and Prafulla Bora, national player (canoeing) Golap Phangso and Hema Deka were felicitated.
Earlier, the Morigaon DC and other officials paid homage before the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and three other martyrs of Morigaon district, namely Hemoram Pator, Gunabhiram Bordoloi and Tilak Deka at the historic Gandhi Bhavan.
In Kaliabor: The 73rd Independence Day was celebrated here at Gandhi Maidan, Kuwaritol with a day-long programme centrally on Thursday under the auspices of Kaliabor Civil Subdivisional office in the presence of a large number of public, ANN Service reports.
Bitupon Neog, SDO, I/C/ADC Kaliabor unfurled the Tricolor as the chief guest after inspecting a guard of honour presented by Assam Police, NCC, Scout and Guide and school students of Kaliabor, He also took the salute of the march past.
Family members of freedom fighters, artiste pensioners, meritorious students, teachers, social workers were felicitated on the occasion.
