BARPETA Dec 9 - High percentage of voter turnout without any untoward incident marked polling for the panchayats in Barpeta subdivision today. Heavy rush and long queue of voters were seen in many polling stations even after 3 pm, the stipulated closing time.
According to reports available, upto 72% polling was recorded till the filing of this report but it is expected to soar above 80%. It is learnt that belated beginning, the large number of voters in some stations, use of ballot papers and ignorance of voters delayed the process beyond schedule. However, the polling process continued peacefully and no untoward incident has been reported so far. Deputy Commissioner Barpeta Thaneswar Malakar informed that in many polling stations there are long queues of voters and it may take several hours to conclude which will lead to final compilation of data the next morning only.
ANN Service adds from Patacharkuchi: Barring a few incidents of ballot-related problems in some polling stations including at 37 no. Barbairagi polling station under Bajali subdivision of Barpeta district, the entire situation was peaceful and voters were seen jubilant and exercised their franchise. Long queues were seen till 3 pm in most of the polling stations of the area.
